Kickoff meeting for SoTL

A key part of the work we do in the Scholarly Initiatives team is supporting the wide range of scholarship conducted by faculty at the College. In this we are inspired by Boyer’s framework of the Teacher Scholar, where he suggests that scholarship at the university falls under four broad categories: The Scholarship of Discovery, Teaching & Learning, Application & Engagement, and Integration.

This semester we are putting some extra effort into foregrounding the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) through a range of meetings and events, the first of which was last week. The meeting was attended by a mixed group of faculty, program coordinators, and staff from the Teachers College as well as a representative from the Graduate College. The goal of this first meeting was to ignite conversations and support faculty in identifying and pursuing their SoTL goals. The conversations and activities were co-led by very own Clarin Collins and clinical assistant professor Amy Markos with the goal of formulating research questions related to student engagement, efficacy, program outcomes, and student success. We are now gearing up to take the conversations to the next level with the next meeting on October 5.
