This panel discussion was part of a broader Learning Futures Collaboratives around the UNESCO report Reimagining our futures together: A new social contract for education. Also, faculty, researchers, and students from the MLFTC community contributed their own thoughts and reactions towards the report.

Inés Dussel Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison (2001). Professor and Researcher, Department of Educational Research, CINVESTAV, Mexico. Dussel served as Director of the Education Area, Latin American School for the Social Sciences (Argentina), from 2001 to 2008. She has published 10 books, edited 6, and has written over 200 chapters in books and articles published in refereed journals, in six languages. In 2018 Dr. Dussel received the Humboldt Research Award, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung (Germany), in recognition of her research trajectory. She is Managing Co-editor of the journal Paedagogica Historica.
David Edwards
Secretary-General of Education International
David Edwards is the Secretary-General of Education International, a federation of 32 million teachers and other educators affiliated with unions and associations in 173 countries. Prior to joining EI in 2011, David was Associate Director of Governance and Policy and head of International Relations, at the National Education Association (NEA) of the United States. Before NEA, David worked as an Education Specialist at the Organization of American States (OAS), a project coordinator and activist in Bolivia, and began his career as a public, high school foreign language teacher. David is dedicated to promoting, strengthening and defending the teaching profession, ensuring quality education for all students and building a strong and vibrant labor movement focused on social justice and human rights.

Noah W. Sobe is Senior Project Officer on UNESCO’s Future of Learning and Innovation team where he helped to lead on the engagement processes, analysis and drafting behind UNESCO’s recently released flagship report on the futures of education. He is on leave from a faculty position as professor at Loyola University Chicago. A Past President of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), Dr. Sobe also serves as co-editor of the journal European Education.

Peter Ronald deSouza is Professor at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), New Delhi, India. He was the Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, where he served two terms from 2007 until 2013. He was with the Goa University, Department of Political Science, from 1987 to 2003. His area of research is on democratic politics in South Asia.
